Buckeye UX (BUX) is a design system that provides web designers and front-end developers with tools to accelerate the process of creating Ohio State websites. Use the components to making user interfaces that look and function in a consistent, brand-compliant manner, as well as integrate accessibility and security best practices.
The BUX components are built in collaboration with units, supporting partners and the Office of Marketing and Communication.

Currently, there is no mandate for the BUX design system to be installed on websites, however using BUX is encouraged in order to meet requirements established in Web Policy such as aligning to the look and feel of brand, incorporating standards in headers and footers, as well as meeting Ohio State’s digital accessibility and security policy requirements. BUX can help with and serve as a starting point for staying in compliance with the Ohio State policies.
Our vision is that all Ohio State digital properties will be transitioned to BUX in 3-5 years, however while there is no formal deadline to move over to the design system, websites will be required to stay in compliance to the university policies that BUX helps meet.
There is no immediate expectation for your site to be redesign with BUX, however there are global elements and considerations you will want to start planning for in the near term, like adopting the OSU Navbar, and incorporating required elements in the header and footer of your site.
The BUX website is public and open to any users, however SSO access or a sponsored guest account may be needed to implement BUX.
