Photo editing with AI
Generative AI makes photo manipulation faster and easier than ever. This guide can help you navigate use of this powerful feature as a part of your work, while balancing ethical concerns and risks in using generative AI for photo manipulation and generation.
1 Remain true to the initial intent of the photograph
2 Assure any manipulation feels real and authentic
Consider lighting, location, etc.
3 Only use the Adobe suite of products to manipulate brand photos
Do not place brand photos into any other Generative AI image tools.
Acceptable manipulations
- Extending the environment to accommodate different size requirements
- Cleaning up busy backgrounds by removing or replacing specific elements
- Standard retouching procedures (smoothing wrinkles, flyaway hair, etc.)
- Swapping out, removing or adding a prop/object/accessory
- Changing the screen on a digital device (tablet, phone, etc.)
- Changing clothing color and adjusting fit issues
Unacceptable manipulations
- Significantly changing the appearance of talent/people so they are not recognizable
- Slight adjustments to original skin or hair are acceptable but modifying the race or ethnicity of someone is not
- Placing people/talent into drastically different backgrounds that aren't consistent with original intent
- One office environment to another office is acceptable but an office to a beach is not
Adobe Stock
- It is acceptable to use images in the Adobe Stock library that have been created or manipulated using Firefly, Adobe’s Generative AI technology (only applies to the Adobe Stock library and Firefly; does not apply to other image sources or Generative AI tools)
- Assure any photos feel real and authentic and are consistent with our brand photo style
